The Tourist - Maybe

No Spoilers...

FIRST OFF I just want to say this movie was worth a watch BUT in NO WAY did Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie deserve to get nominated for Golden Globes! That is just crazy. And this movie was supposed to be a comedy - which I didn't really see nor was Angelina Jolie funny. I mean it had a decent plot and a few funny moments I guess but I mean all in all there was nothing special about it.

If you watch a lot of movies like me I say it's worth it BUT if you are picky and don't watch many movies at all then you can leave this one alone and choose a better one.

So I give this a decent rating. It was not amazing but it wasn't bad either I just think given the actor/actress in the film - Jolie, Depp, Betany, etc. it should have been much better but I guess they didn't write it so what can you do?

Stone - Don't bother!

No spoilers....

So okay you would think Robert De Niro, Edward Norton, and Milla Jovavich that a movie would be good, right? NOPE! Wrong! It's a weird weird random movie with odd religious undertones.

I have to admit that Edward Norton's character "Stone" was mildly entertaining but there were far too many completely illogical moments that made the movie just plain odd.

I wanted to like it but I just didn't at ALL!

So save your time and DON'T watch this movie... if you do watch it - don't say I didn't warn you....

Case 39 - Watch it!

One Spoiler....

Okay first off one of the first few scenes involve parents trying to kill their daughter. It doesn't happen - but fair warning.... There are other parts that are icky (LOL) this is not for people with a weak stomach or those easily creeped out.

This movie is C R A Z Y there are some insane parts in this flick that will
mess. with. your. mind.
SERIOUSLY!

I don't put a whole lot of stock in Bradley Cooper or Renee Zellweger as fabulous dramatic actors but I must say I have no complaints about them in this movie.

Jodelle Ferland was haunting as the young girl in the film - Lilly. If she can be that good at playing that character I am sure that she has a great acting future - or ends up messed up for portraying this character. Hopefully the first.

Either way - check out the movie and.... ENJOY!

Devil - Watch it!

No Spoilers....

Ok so M. Knight Shyamalan (Sha-mama-han is one of the many ways I personally like to pronounce his name LOL) has been restored as a good writer. Devil is an anxiety ridden film that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Even though 90% of the movie takes place in an elevator it doesn't stop the movie from being intense!

The actors and actresses did a wonderful job in the movie and the screenplay was well written and worked great as a whole.

I say give it a shot :) and.... ENJOY!

Legend of the Guardian of Ga'Hoole - Maybe (parents please read)

No Spoilers...

First of all I realize that this is an animated movie - but I highly doubt it is the type to keep your children occupied. Fair warning. Also it is rather odd to watch a movie that is animated but also realistic enough that they appear to be real owls and they fight each other and what not... kind of weird especially for kids.

**edit: after writing this review I had people tell me their kids loved it while others agreed it looked like crap SO I thought I should say MAYBE your kids will like it - just to keep it fair! :) **

I found the plot to be exceptionally far fetched (not that Shrek and Up and others aren't but this was just different-hard to explain). I just find a plot about owls in a war for power as a bit odd.

I'm giving this a Maybe and not a don't bother because I didn't HATE it I just thought it was rather boring but if you like owls LOL maybe you should check it out ;)

There is a part of the movie where they even wield swords against each other (holding on to them with their claws) and sport armor which includes metal claws. Kind of odd yet again.

This is not to say that there were no amusing aspects because there were but all in all I'd say choose another animated film - for instance Shrek forever after, Up, Despicable Me, or Toy Story 3 - they will all be enjoyed by everyone... this one I say... save your money.

If you choose to watch this remember.... you have been warned :)

For Colored Girls - Watch it unless.... please read part in RED

Some spoilers (won't ruin the movie though)....

"and this is for colored girls who have considered suicide but who have movied to the ends of their own rainbows" (from the film)

Ok no spoilers yet but please realize you SHOULD NOT watch this without a very strong stomach for very difficult issues. This movie involves rape, the death of children, abortion, abuse, attempted suicide, etc.

It is logical within the context of the movie. It is the point of the movie. That life can be difficult for colored women. It is the entire point of the film. This is not to say that these things can't happen to women of any race. But this film is by Tyler Perry and is based on 20 poems written (I believe) about 20 different types of colored women.

A run down of the characters without giving TOO MUCH away...

ALL these women were amazing in the movie - if anything was lacking it was not because of them that is for sure!

Kimberley Elise is wonderful (as always in my opinion) as an abused mother.
Janet Jackson is a hard business woman who assistant is Elise's character and has a troubled marriage.
Loretta Devine is a woman trying to be happy through a crappy relationship, who also has a non profit organization to help young women
Thandie Newton is promiscuous women
Anika Noni Rose is a dancer who tries a new relationship and is hurt.
Kerry Washington is a social worker who finds out she cannot have children
Tessa Thompson is Newton's sister and a girl who's life goes off course before college.
Phylicia Rashad is an apartment manager and lives next door to Newton and Elise's characters.
Whoopi Goldberg is Newton and Thompsons mother who is involved in a religious group and consistently judges her daughters.

I think that the movie was good but the addition of the poetry into the language of the movie and the conversations was a little odd and didn't really fit well.  There were places that skipped around and places that were odd but all in all I think the characters fit well and the stories connected if for no other reason then they were all colored women who were experiencing hard times in their lives. Some characters connected better than others... At the end they are all connected in the final scenes. These women were all amazing actresses and Perry did a WONDERFUL job choosing them for their parts. The only part that bothered me throughout was the poetry in the conversations. It was a bit odd.

Either way if you have the stomach for the subject matter then I suggest you watch if. Ever since Diary of a Mad Black Women I have not been let down by Tyler Perry's films!

Enjoy....
