Burlesque - Watch it! - Chick Flick -

Alright so this was not the smut fest that I expected given the subject matter. So that in general made me happily surprised. I was also not too keen on Cher but I admit she was pretty good in it.

I'm not a huge Christina fan but the girl can sing (even if her singing contains a bit to many runs for me sometimes LOL).

This was a boy meets girl type of movie but ya know she wears skimpy, sexy clothes so that she can sing LOL ya know TOTALLY the type of thing that happens to every girl ;)

Either way I thought it was quite tasteful and I liked the music. I say.. nicely done :) It's no Moulin Rouge but it is certainly worth a watch :)

Enjoy...

How do you know - Don't Bother

How would you know this wouldn't be good? There is no way to know because I can admit it this movie DOES have a good cast! The problem is I have NO idea why they choose to be in this movie!

First off I thought Reese Witherspoon had gained some more momentum and was going to take on some more interesting roles - for example Water for Elephants, Walk the Line, etc. I mean I admit it I enjoyed Legally Blonde and what now but two of those was enough of that character we need not bring a similar blonde bimbo back!

Could it still have been good? Possibly but.... it wasn't! While I enjoy Owen Wilson, Paul Rudd, and Jack Nicholson I was not impressed with any of them. This script has left a LOT to be desired! So with all the great movies out there don't waste your time!

No Strings Attached - Watch it!

Ok so I know I'm not the only one who has thought this.... but WOW I mean talk about same story line for tons of movies! Geesh. Friends with Benefits is coming out on Friday, Love & Other Drugs was not that long ago (though there was a BIT more to that story), and that's just recently....

Is that typical? Sometimes - I mean remember:
The Illusionist and Prestige
The Thin Red Line and Saving Private Ryan
Armageddon and Deep Impact
Volcano and Dante's Peak
Antz and A Bug's Life
The Truman Show and EdTV
Mission to Mars and Red Planet
the list goes on I'm sure

Sooo with that all set aside I cannot judge Friends With Benefits (stay tuned I plan to see it next week) but check my posts for Love and Other Drugs. I DID like No Strings Attached.

It was a much better plot than I expected and was quirky and funny also. Certainly worth a watch. Will it leave you shocked with the way it ends - nah probably not - but hey sometimes a little predictability in a movie can be a welcome change. I wish I had some predictability in my life LOL ;)

OH and guys... you'll like it to - this is not something I would label as purely a chick flick!

Check it out and enjoy...

Sanctum - Watch it!

Well I saw this in theaters LOL so I am a bit (okay WAY) behind but this is well worth a watch! If you are anything like me you will be squirming at the thought of getting literally STUCK in a cave in a downpour! Talk about claustrophobia! WOW! Not only are they stuck in the cave but it is filling up with water!!

It is one action packed movie that will leave you on the edge of your seat! It was great in 3d but if you didn't catch it in theaters you will have to deal with it without the 3d ;)

Enjoy....

Larry Crowne - Watch it!

Ok so all the reviews I have read of this movie say it's "slow to start" and that the relationship between Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts takes too long to get interesting... blah blah blah. Forget them! This movie was lovely!

It made me remember how great both Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts are and made me wonder how they have not been in a movie together until this one! They were great together! Great chemistry & one HILARIOUS kissing scene! It also made me really wish I drove a scooter! Holy awesome miles per gallon batman!

All in all it is interesting and fun the whole way through. A perfect picture of how the economy is kicking people's butts and how not having an education can really screw you. A nice, interesting, funny story of one man overcoming his misfortunes!

Highly recommended for men and women alike! :)

Check it out and .... ENJOY!

Mr. Popper's Penguins - WATCH IT!

Ok so I admit I did not expect much when I saw a trailer for this movie at first. The trailer I saw then was a bad compilation for sure. It made it look dumb - it surely wasn't dumb at all it was really good!

I thought this was a GREAT movie for adults and children alike! Everyone will leave this movie happy :) Jim Carrey is fantastic. Great amount of his humor but minus any crude humor. Perfect!

Is it realistic to have penguins living in your house with you? Of course not! But, if you can get past the sheer audacity of the whole notion of penguins coinciding in a NYC apartment and realize THIS IS A KID'S MOVIE ;) then you will be just fine!

I mean let's be honest nowadays how many movies are there out that are realistic? Not many unless someone would like to point out the Jack Sparrow's or X-Men or Green Lantern's that they see hanging out nearby ;)

So ignore the impossible nature and just ENJOY! The fun of movies is the fact that they involve no thinking ;)

Bridesmaids - Watch It!

OK for one - if you like The Hangover you will like this movie. There is a good chance that even if you didn't like The Hangover you will like Bridesmaids. Now be prepared because it can be a bit raunchy in parts. For instance I went to see this movie in the middle of the day in a theater filled with mainly old people and the movie starts with a rather awkward sex scene. So you have been warned. ;)

Kristin Wigg (from SNL) co wrote this movie so that is probably a large reason why I loved it because she is HILARIOUS!

There are a few scenes that will LITERALLY have you in tears from laughing so much! This is worth a watch if you can handle a few awkward moments :) Far less awkward then The Hangover 2 that's for sure! With that said this is not for children (obviously as it IS rated R).

Enjoy...

Your Highness - DON'T BOTHER!!!!

I CANNOT STATE THIS ENOUGH!

THIS. MOVIE. WAS. AWFUL. AND. SHOULD. NEVER. HAVE. BEEN. MADE!

A W F U L

I was expecting some crude humor but honestly this was so awful it was upsetting. I didn't have much of an interest in it but had my husband warned me (as he should have) what he had heard about it there is NO WAY I would have seen it. I blame this on him.

My car broke down so I had my mothers and needed to do something before picking her up from work - so it was this or Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I thought Wimpy Kid would be embarrassing to see but now that I have seen Your Highness I am beyond embarrassed that I watched THAT! It was the first movie I have ever seen where 20 minutes in I wanted to see if I could get my money back. UGH! Honestly I wish I had left whether I got my money back or not.

TRUST ME! DON'T BOTHER!

Country Strong - Watch it!

No Spoilers...

Fair warning it is certainly a sad movie! Do not watch this and expect to be cheery at the end. If you have any issues with pregnancies, alcoholism, drugs, or any emotional issues this will certainly hit you where it hurts in a few parts.

Ok honestly I was not expecting much from this movie. I really thought I was going to hate it. For one I am not a fan of country music in the least and two I heard it was awful. Well I was pleasantly surprised by this movie!

I thought that Gwyneth Paltrow did a great job as the main character Kelly Canter. Ever since I saw her in Duets I have believed her to be a great singer. She has been great in her episodes on GLEE and she was great in this. Hater of country music or not the girl can sing and she pulled off a very dramatic role very well in my opinion.

Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund, and Leighton Meester were all very good in their parts also.

I rented this from my local redbox - totally worth the $1.00!!

Check out the trailer below. ENJOY!

Source Code - Watch it (wait for dvd though)

No Spoilers...

To start with... I expected this to be FAR too 'Groundhog day' for me (if you have never watched that movie the same day repeats the whole movie basically). This would have have seriously annoyed me and I am happy to say it was NOT like that.

If you have not heard of the movie - check out the trailer below - it's weird to explain. What I can say about this is it was worth watching. It won't be nominated for any awards. It is certainly not as mind blowing as Inception (which might I add totally got shunned at the awards which was rather upsetting) or one that we will necessarily remember as these actors BEST movies. It is a cool concept though. My husband and I both expected a bit more from it. I can't really articulate what I expected without giving too much away. So I won't explain.

I will just say you should give it a shot but wait for DVD. There wasn't much to be gained from seeing this in theaters. I would have enjoyed it just as much on my TV.
Either way - certainly worth a rental :)

Soul Surfer - WATCH IT!

No Spoilers...

"I don't know why terrible things happen to us sometimes. But I have to believe something good is going to come from this."

This movie is a true story about a young girl who had recently become a pro surfer and while surfing she had her arm bitten off by a shark. It is a truly inspiring story about how this girl goes against all odds and actually learns how to surf again. It was far more impressive than I ever expected it to be and had a lot of mentions about God and faith that I found to be truly touching as I am a Christian myself. I can't imagine ever going through something like that but I believe it would have been a completely different situation had she not had faith in God.

Her faith and her family's faith and the faith of her friends and community are a big part of what makes this movie amazing. If you ever been through something difficult this movie will make you realize that good can come from anything. It was a truly touching film filled with many amazing actors.

Check it out - I doubt you'll be disappointed!

ENJOY!

Limitless - WATCH IT!

No Spoilers...

Rotten Tomatoes  gave this movie a 65% fresh (I would rate it better than that for sure)
Okay so Robert DeNiro - awesome - and shockingly equally awesome - Bradley Cooper equals fabulous movie! I saw the preview and I was instantly intrigued. I have to say though it was MUCH better than I even expected it to be. Bradley Cooper has never been a favorite actor of mine really but he was fantastic in this movie.

The concept is that there is a drug that can make it so you can use your entire brain (rather than the supposed only 20% we can access).

So obviously this drug is very important to anyone who finds out about it - it can INSTANTLY change your life!

This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Very well filmed. Artistic and just so good. Check it out. You won't be disappointed!

ENJOY....

Adjustment Bureau - WATCH IT!

No Spoilers....

Rotten Tomatoes
gave this movie a 72% fresh.

Ok so who doesn't love Matt Damon? He is a fantastic actor. This movie has an awesome plot. Basically there are people that know the "plan" of what our life is supposed to be. The track that we are supposed to be on. They are around, watching to keep us on track. If someone - in this case Matt Damon's character - goes of their plan then they make "adjustments" to put them back on track.

Matt Damon and Emily Blunt (LOVE her accent) were both great in the movie!

This is a very cool movie. I liked it a lot. I think there could have been a BIT more towards the end of the movie but all in all it was WELL worth the watch :)

ENJOY....

Morning Glory - Watch it!!

No Spoilers....

Rotten Tomatoes gave this movie a 54% (but in my opinion they notoriously dislike movies of this sort)

I think this one should amuse guys too so I will not call this a chick flick. It is a great comedy! I love me some sarcastic monotone Harrison Ford :) and mix Dian Keaton's witchy and crazy mannerisms in this flick and it is downright hilarious. This is a great movie to watch if you are having a bad day! I DARE YOU to try not to laugh while watching this movie!

I think everyone will enjoy it! Think "It's Complicated" (Meryl Streep, Alec Bladwin, & Steve Martin)! And if you didn't like that movie then you are crazy. My husband may have had issue with this movie but that is because he REALLY doesn't like Diane Keaton after seeing her hit on Keanu Reeves in "Something's Gotta Give" LOL. She was great in this movie though. Couldn't have chosen a better actress for her character! It was a great cast and Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford, and Diane Keaton among others were great!

It's not the type of movie that wins awards but it is surely worth the great laughter and entertainment! Check it out and ENJOY....

Like Dandelion Dust - Watch It!

No Spoilers....

Rotten Tomatoes gave this movie a 92% fresh! Which is a super high rating for them for sure!

To start with this is a drama about a family that adopted a child and the birth parents try to gain custody back seven years later. So be ready for that - it is what the entire movie is about.

This was a heartwrenching drama filled with amazing actors and actresses and scenes that will leave you in tears. It is a story of woman who decided to give her child up and then seven years later wanted to be a mother again. it is a story of a family that adopted him because they could not have their own children. A family that loved him with all their heart and could do nothing in court to keep him. But it is also a story of hope.

This is a wonderful movie that gives hope in humanity. Hope in human decency. Hope in love. Be ready to cry though all you ladies out there - trust me - you will!

This movie is WELL worth a watch! Get ready for an emotional roller coaster filled with happiness, anger, and many tears.

ENJOY.....

Faster - Watch it!

No Spoilers...

Rotten Tomatoes gave this a 42%

The best way to describe this movie is a mix of Fast & the Furious with A Man Apart. Think crazy fast awesome driving sequences with a HEFTY amount of revenge killings. And that's the gist of it pretty much. I think The Rock (I could care less if he doesn't want to be called that anymore LOL right up there with J.Lo and P Diddy - don't make the name up and then tell people not to call you it later!) did a good job. I mean in all honesty did it TAKE a whole LOT of acting? Not really lol but it is worth the watch in my opinion.

Note how I mentioned KILLINGS! I mean it people there is mass amounts of violence so spare your children the gruesome nightmares and DON'T let them catch ANY of this flick okay?

Don't expect some crazy deep movie with a massively involved plot. There is a plot but this is no award winner. Check it out and if you do.... ENJOY!

Love and Other Drugs - Watch It

No Spoilers....

Rotten Tomatoes gave this movie a 48%

Ok I'll admit it I was thinking from the trailers that this was going to be a movie all about sex. You all were too! LOL.... Anyways I must say there is FAR more plot to this and it really is a romantic comedy/drama. Mind you it in NO way is a chick flick. My husband thought it was a good movie too so no need for men to be worried!

Fair warning there is a decent amount of nudity. You will see a whole lot of Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal for sure. But I think there was less of it then I expected. They show the majority of those scenes (only in part of course) in the trailers.

However, like I said I think it's worth a watch. There is a great love story beneath the story line. Of course this is not a child appropriate movie by any means. I wouldn't let your teenager watch this unless you want to teach them some anatomy. Just a thought....

Anyways.... I could have lived with less nudity for sure. But... if you have seen one naked body you've seen them all right? ;) HAHA! It would have been even better with less flesh but still well worth a couple hours on the couch... ENJOY!

Secretariat -- WATCH IT!

No spoilers.....

Rotten Tomatoes gave this movie a 64% fresh

I have wanted to see this movie for awhile because I really like Diane Lane. I have to say that I was wary of it as I HATED the movie Seabiscuit with a passion! But THIS movie was great. There were not mass amounts of boring segments of one horse running and what not. It has a great plot and great actors. I also have loved John Malcovich ever since I saw Mary Reilly (if you have not seen it check it out he is Dr. Jeckyl/Mr. Hyde and Julis Roberts is his maid - GREAT movie) and he was great in this movie too!

While I am in no means a crazy feminist I did love that the owner was a woman and no one thought she was any kind of threat to them. That was great to watch a woman in a movie (based on history) that is set in the 70's be so stubborn and in people's faces! I think that was a fantastic thing to have in a movie. Mind you it was in no way the subject of the movie it was a nice subtle side plot to an already great film.

Check it out and.....ENJOY!

Just go with it - WATCH IT!

No Spoilers....

Alright so this movie is perfect for anyone in my opinion! It is NOT a chick flick and I swear to you guys will love it too! I am a huge fan of Adam Sandler but I must say that many of his movies can have rather stupid and/or possibly offensive (to some) moments. This film really had none of those. Sure there is the whole story line of him lying to women, etc. which some could find offensive but I mean there were no moments that specifically were disgustingly offensive. So that's a plus for sure :)

I was laughing throughout the entire movie and I highly suggest that people check this movie out :)

ENJOY...

The Tourist - Maybe

No Spoilers...

FIRST OFF I just want to say this movie was worth a watch BUT in NO WAY did Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie deserve to get nominated for Golden Globes! That is just crazy. And this movie was supposed to be a comedy - which I didn't really see nor was Angelina Jolie funny. I mean it had a decent plot and a few funny moments I guess but I mean all in all there was nothing special about it.

If you watch a lot of movies like me I say it's worth it BUT if you are picky and don't watch many movies at all then you can leave this one alone and choose a better one.

So I give this a decent rating. It was not amazing but it wasn't bad either I just think given the actor/actress in the film - Jolie, Depp, Betany, etc. it should have been much better but I guess they didn't write it so what can you do?

Stone - Don't bother!

No spoilers....

So okay you would think Robert De Niro, Edward Norton, and Milla Jovavich that a movie would be good, right? NOPE! Wrong! It's a weird weird random movie with odd religious undertones.

I have to admit that Edward Norton's character "Stone" was mildly entertaining but there were far too many completely illogical moments that made the movie just plain odd.

I wanted to like it but I just didn't at ALL!

So save your time and DON'T watch this movie... if you do watch it - don't say I didn't warn you....

Case 39 - Watch it!

One Spoiler....

Okay first off one of the first few scenes involve parents trying to kill their daughter. It doesn't happen - but fair warning.... There are other parts that are icky (LOL) this is not for people with a weak stomach or those easily creeped out.

This movie is C R A Z Y there are some insane parts in this flick that will
mess. with. your. mind.
SERIOUSLY!

I don't put a whole lot of stock in Bradley Cooper or Renee Zellweger as fabulous dramatic actors but I must say I have no complaints about them in this movie.

Jodelle Ferland was haunting as the young girl in the film - Lilly. If she can be that good at playing that character I am sure that she has a great acting future - or ends up messed up for portraying this character. Hopefully the first.

Either way - check out the movie and.... ENJOY!

Devil - Watch it!

No Spoilers....

Ok so M. Knight Shyamalan (Sha-mama-han is one of the many ways I personally like to pronounce his name LOL) has been restored as a good writer. Devil is an anxiety ridden film that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Even though 90% of the movie takes place in an elevator it doesn't stop the movie from being intense!

The actors and actresses did a wonderful job in the movie and the screenplay was well written and worked great as a whole.

I say give it a shot :) and.... ENJOY!

Legend of the Guardian of Ga'Hoole - Maybe (parents please read)

No Spoilers...

First of all I realize that this is an animated movie - but I highly doubt it is the type to keep your children occupied. Fair warning. Also it is rather odd to watch a movie that is animated but also realistic enough that they appear to be real owls and they fight each other and what not... kind of weird especially for kids.

**edit: after writing this review I had people tell me their kids loved it while others agreed it looked like crap SO I thought I should say MAYBE your kids will like it - just to keep it fair! :) **

I found the plot to be exceptionally far fetched (not that Shrek and Up and others aren't but this was just different-hard to explain). I just find a plot about owls in a war for power as a bit odd.

I'm giving this a Maybe and not a don't bother because I didn't HATE it I just thought it was rather boring but if you like owls LOL maybe you should check it out ;)

There is a part of the movie where they even wield swords against each other (holding on to them with their claws) and sport armor which includes metal claws. Kind of odd yet again.

This is not to say that there were no amusing aspects because there were but all in all I'd say choose another animated film - for instance Shrek forever after, Up, Despicable Me, or Toy Story 3 - they will all be enjoyed by everyone... this one I say... save your money.

If you choose to watch this remember.... you have been warned :)

For Colored Girls - Watch it unless.... please read part in RED

Some spoilers (won't ruin the movie though)....

"and this is for colored girls who have considered suicide but who have movied to the ends of their own rainbows" (from the film)

Ok no spoilers yet but please realize you SHOULD NOT watch this without a very strong stomach for very difficult issues. This movie involves rape, the death of children, abortion, abuse, attempted suicide, etc.

It is logical within the context of the movie. It is the point of the movie. That life can be difficult for colored women. It is the entire point of the film. This is not to say that these things can't happen to women of any race. But this film is by Tyler Perry and is based on 20 poems written (I believe) about 20 different types of colored women.

A run down of the characters without giving TOO MUCH away...

ALL these women were amazing in the movie - if anything was lacking it was not because of them that is for sure!

Kimberley Elise is wonderful (as always in my opinion) as an abused mother.
Janet Jackson is a hard business woman who assistant is Elise's character and has a troubled marriage.
Loretta Devine is a woman trying to be happy through a crappy relationship, who also has a non profit organization to help young women
Thandie Newton is promiscuous women
Anika Noni Rose is a dancer who tries a new relationship and is hurt.
Kerry Washington is a social worker who finds out she cannot have children
Tessa Thompson is Newton's sister and a girl who's life goes off course before college.
Phylicia Rashad is an apartment manager and lives next door to Newton and Elise's characters.
Whoopi Goldberg is Newton and Thompsons mother who is involved in a religious group and consistently judges her daughters.

I think that the movie was good but the addition of the poetry into the language of the movie and the conversations was a little odd and didn't really fit well.  There were places that skipped around and places that were odd but all in all I think the characters fit well and the stories connected if for no other reason then they were all colored women who were experiencing hard times in their lives. Some characters connected better than others... At the end they are all connected in the final scenes. These women were all amazing actresses and Perry did a WONDERFUL job choosing them for their parts. The only part that bothered me throughout was the poetry in the conversations. It was a bit odd.

Either way if you have the stomach for the subject matter then I suggest you watch if. Ever since Diary of a Mad Black Women I have not been let down by Tyler Perry's films!

Enjoy....
